What Exactly is Dedicated Servers Hosting?
When we speak of hosting servers, there are three principal sorts - shared hosting servers, VPS (virtual private web servers) and dedicated servers. Shared servers accommodate multiple customers and hence the system resources per web hosting account are restricted, virtual private servers give you more server configuration liberty, but also influence other VPS servers on the hardware node if used imprudently, and dedicated servers give you the autonomy to carry out everything you please without intervening with anyone else.
Why would you require a dedicated servers?
Dedicated servers are commonly much more expensive than shared servers or virtual private web hosting servers. Why would anyone, then, use them? The explanation is rather simple. If your corporation has a high resource-consuming website, or simply has very special server configuration requirements, the most relevant choice would be a dedicated servers. For someone who is inclined to invest in security and dependability, the greater price is of no importance. You get complete root-level access and can utilize 100% of the hosting server's resources without anyone else using these system resources and intervening with your web portals.
Hardware specifications
The majority of website hosting distributors, incl. us at Holy Trinity Hosting, provide several different hardware configurations you can select from in line with your demands. The hardware architectures offer different varieties of microprocessors, a different number of cores, different RAM and hard disk sizes and different monthly traffic usage quotas. You can select a hosting CP, which is a useful software tool if you would like to utilize the dedicated servers for hosting purposes only and choose not to resort to an SSH console for all the modifications you will be making. We provide three types of web hosting CP software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.
The web hosting CP of your choosing
If you are a confident Linux OS user (our dedicated hosting servers are powered by Linux or other Unix-based Operating Systems), you could manage your dedicated servers through a Secure Shell client only. That, however, could be inconvenient, even more so if you decide to give root privileges to somebody else who has less technical proficiency than yourself. This is why having web hosting CP software pre-installed is a great idea. The Hepsia hosting CP software tool that we offer does not give you full root access and is mostly appropriate for someone who has lots of online portals that require a lot of system resources, but wishes to manage the sites, databases and e-mail addresses using an easy-to-use Control Panel. The DirectAdmin and cPanel hosting Control Panels, on the other hand, give you full root privileges and include 3 access levels - root, reseller and user. If you intend to resell hosting packages rather than utilizing the dedicated servers solely for yourself, you should choose one of these two.
Web server monitoring and backup procedures
Last but not least, there is the matter of monitoring the dedicated servers and of backing it up. In the event of a problem with your hosting server, such as a non-responsive Apache or a network outage, it is good to have some sort of monitoring platform enabled. Here at Holy Trinity Hosting the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you have a Managed Services package, they monitor the individual services on the dedicated servers too. Backups are also an extra feature - the hosting company offers you data backups on our own backup web servers. You could select a kind of RAID that would permit you to keep the very same data on two server hard drives as a protective measure in the event of a disk drive failure, or in case someone whom you have given full root access deletes something by mistake.
